This command opens a collection of numbered images the size of a 35mm slide, each with a date, time and size reference. A choice can be made and the apparent lack of color ignored. |

Color Depth is very important because of the effect on the file size and quality. A simple publication's interest will center on 256 or 16 shades of Gray for black and white photographs.
The Enhance menu looks at aspects of focus, contrast and brightness but the By Example command is the significant feature which allows changes of Focus, Exposure, Brightness / Contrast and Color in specified Variations. |

A matrix of 9 views provides choices which one can apply progressively. It is worth noting the number of times and the order in which variations were applied. Note too that the viewing square can be shifted with the mouse (click + drag) so that details in the larger picture can be considered. |

SmartPix effects are based on lighting modifications. A small amount of sunshine, flash or artificial light can be significantly enhanced by using these features a number of times. Again, listing of sequences and numbers of applications is recommended. |

A suggested activity After a trial shooting session, 1. Take one of the images provided and save it as a different file in each color depth. Get information on the size of each and note your rating of the resulting screen image. 2. Prepare your best color and best grayscale versions and save each as PICT, TIF and EPS formats.
