THE TASK : 1. By now you have completed a task, trying to remember a list
of one syllable words like BAQ, FOM, MAV etc. and writing them down in
order. Each trial, you looked at the list for approximately 30 seconds, tried to
write it down in another 30 secs, then covered your work before trying again.
After about 8 trials you were asked to write down your feelings in a few,
descriptive words. Then it was back to work again for further trials.
Later you corrected your work, assessing it in two ways. First it was
marked from the beginning, one point for each correct response until you
made the first error.

Then it was marked one point for every correct response in its correct
sequence.
You entered your results on a grid and joined up the plotted points to
show two different graphs. You also saw the results of other participants.

What can be learned from such an activity and how should it
effect your training strategies?

FEELINGS: Typically , participants reported feelings that can be classified as
positive or negative.
Positive comments involved words such as " satisfied, excited, pleased,
confident, successful etc" while negative comments may have been "
frustrated, angry, bored, stupid, puzzled, confused, meaningless, hopeless etc.
"

Just think! In ten minutes of work, the group experienced a wide range of
positive or negative feelings, even though all participated in the same
experience. When you consider that a training session may be 30 minutes,
an hour, 2 hours, a day or many days, the presenter has to plan to generate as
many positive reactions and as few negative reactions as possible if the
training is to be successful.

Look at the task. What went wrong?
