Flights of Tomorrow

Can you imagine the aeroplanes of the future? Will passengers jumbo jets be equipped with shops, restaurants, cabins and space for 1,000 passengers? How fast will the aeroplanes of tomorrow be able to travel? Supersonic planes such as Concorde are the fastest passenger planes today. They travel at Mach 2.2, and to exceed this, airliners would need to fly at about 18,288 m. But at this altitude, jet engines can harm the ozone layer. Supersonic planes are also very costly to build and this makes it expensive to travel on them. Special-purpose aeroplanes such as the Bell/Boeing Tiltrotor, which is part helicopter and part aeroplane, will definitely be part of aviation's future. This aeroplane can fly between cities, land in tiny downtown airports and on the roofs of buildings. But what will be the ultimate flight of tomorrow? Perhaps flying to space in a space-shuttle airliner.
