Rationale

The Internet can extend teaching and learning beyond the walls of the
classroom. It provides access to global information resources and activities,
and allows communication with users across the world.

The Internet provides opportunities to develop students' capabilities in
information handling and communication. It also promotes their awareness
of, and confidence in, using various computer-based technologies. This
creates educational challenges and users need to develop the ability to
evaluate and verify the information and ideas they encounter. The Internet
provides a medium for rapid, low-cost publishing of children's work.

The use of the Internet in teaching and learning supports student-centred
learning; it promotes the development of information and communication
skills and encourages collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. The
multimedia presentation of the Internet suits a range of teaching and learning
styles and can be highly motivating for students.
