Student Access - Internet Policy

materials are encountered, new features are discovered or contact is made
with other users.

Internet material that schools consider to be inappropriate for students
should be reported to The Schools Technology Centre on 132348.

The staff at Austral Public School follow many procedures in regard to
inappropriate use of the Internet and E-Mail (listed in Internet Access section
of this policy), however, it is impossible to control all materials and
controversial material may be discovered by an industrious user. Students are
ultimately responsible for their own behaviour and the appropriate use of this
valuable resource. They need to be made aware that this resource is a
privilege not a right, and may be revoked if abused. All students will be
required to sign an agreement stating that they will use the Internet and E-
Mail appropriately and that the Internet is to be used for research only (see
Appendix 2.)

If a student discovers material that is considered inappropriate they are to
immediately tell the supervising teacher.

The supervising teacher will:
1.Remove all students from the immediate area to stop them viewing the
material.
2.Note the URL (Internet address) on paper. Do not Bookmark or Save.
3. Shut the computer down.
4. Move along in the lesson focusing on a new activity to avoid the URL.
5. Notify the Principal and Computer Co-ordinator as soon as possible.
6.Talk to the Computer Co-ordinator and Class Teacher who will talk to
the student and try to ascertain how the sight was located. The
Computer Co- ordinator and Class Teacher will decide if disciplinary
action is to be taken.
7. Informed the Principal of any disciplinary action.
8.Advise the Computer Co-ordinator who shall contact the School
Technology Support Centre (132348) and advise of the location of this
URL.

Student Use Of The Internet

The Internet is another research tool that has been provided to the school.
As such, it should only be used for this purpose, or for the purpose of sending
or receiving E-Mail. Students need to be made aware that the school's
Internet computer is not a toy and is not to be used for entertainment
purposes. If a student is to use this facility they will need to adhere to the
guidelines listed below.

  1. Sign a student agreement form for the appropriate use of the Internet
    and E-Mail.
  2. Have a specific educational purpose for using the Internet or E-mail
    facility.
  3. Ask the supervising teacher before they print any material.
  4. Have the teacher edit any E-Mail that they wish to send.
  5. Notify the supervising teacher immediately if they discover any
    inappropriate material.
