The Secondary Professional Studies/Options Program

EDBT5601 Professional Studies 1 is a second semester unit of study for all secondary candidates in first year, It comprises two components:

  1. A course in 'Literacy and Numeracy Across the Curriculum' which is designed to meet the NSW Department of Education and Training's requirement that all pre-service teacher education qualifications should address 6 Mandatory Areas of study, of which Literacy Education is one. This component of the Options 1 course unit will consist of 6 lectures and associated tutorials, many of which will be on-line tutorials which are designed to develop student skills in Information and Communication Technology literacies (ICT is another of the DET's 6 Mandatory Areas for teacher education courses). These classes are on Tuesday 12 (Bosch LT4) in the 4 weeks before Practicum
  2. An options class chosen from those listed below. OR an approved professional development activity (approval of the MTeach Secondary Course Coordinator is required). These classes cover a wide range of professional perspectives. These classes are available at various times and generally comprise 6 x 1.5hr seminars, or the equivalent. Most classes (unless otherwise indicated) will begin after the Practicum.

Professional Studies 1 - Options 1 Class Choices. These will start after the Practicum (Professional Experiences 1) in semester 2 (unless otherwise indicated in the course outline for an options class). A list of 2005 classes will be placed here in the second half of semester 1 (the 2004 list is indicative only - some of these classes will not be available in 2005 and new ones will be added).
