The Secondary Professional Studies/Options Program
EDBT5601 Professional Studies 1 is a
second semester unit of study for all secondary candidates in first
year, It comprises two components:
- A course in 'Literacy and
Numeracy Across the Curriculum' which is designed to meet the
NSW Department of Education and Training's requirement that all
pre-service teacher education qualifications should address 6
Mandatory Areas of study, of which Literacy Education is one. This
component of the Options 1 course unit will consist of 6 lectures
and associated tutorials, many of which will be on-line tutorials
which are designed to develop student skills in Information and
Communication Technology literacies (ICT is another of the DET's 6
Mandatory Areas for teacher education courses). These classes are
on Tuesday 12 (Bosch LT4) in the 4 weeks before
Practicum
- An options class chosen from
those listed below. OR an approved professional development
activity (approval of the MTeach Secondary Course Coordinator is
required). These classes cover a wide range of professional
perspectives. These classes are available at various times and
generally comprise 6 x 1.5hr seminars, or the equivalent. Most
classes (unless otherwise indicated) will begin after the
Practicum.
Professional
Studies 1 - Options 1 Class Choices.
These will start after the Practicum (Professional Experiences 1) in
semester 2 (unless otherwise indicated in the course outline for an
options class). A list of 2005 classes will be placed here in the
second half of semester 1 (the 2004 list is indicative only - some of
these classes will not be available in 2005 and new ones will be
added).
Options 1 Registration - On line registration is not currently
available (this will not be availble until the last weeks in semster
1) . If you have not registered by the first week of semester 2, you
should check the MTeach noticeboard for class lists, note which
classes still have places and then register for one of these with
Maria Grace Guerreiro (in the Faculty Student Information
office.
