REVISION METHOD INCLUDING REVIEW

The general purpose of revision is to clarify and consolidate by looking back over a portion of a lesson, a whole lesson or a series of lessons.

 Specific purposes of revision may be:

 Review

 Sometimes in revision, the process of clarification and consolidation leads incidentally to a sense of perspective. However when the primary purpose of a lesson (or a part of it) is to demonstrate perspective the method might be more appropriately called review.

Examples of review are the demonstration of perspective in history by means of time-lines, a series of pictures to show changes in transport, methods of warfare, etc.


A typical revision or review lesson might involve the following steps:

Step 1. Setting the goal.

Step 2. Recall of data. Variety and briskness are important considerations. Oral questioning by teacher, quizzes, competitions, pictures, drama, films, etc. may be used.

Step 3. Organization of data. Summaries may take many forms: e g. completion, labelling, pictorial and-tabular form.

Step 4. If desired)

(a) Recording and, or

(b) Practice

 Note: Steps 2 and 3 and even 4 might sometimes take place concurrently.
