The assignment asks you to produce an Australian production of Macbeth, so I think that it would be safest to stick with Australian actors, although it wouldn't hurt to have a few of the minor roles covered by Americans or actors from any other part of the world. When choosing your actors, while people may know people like Brad Pitt and Gwenyth Paltrow, you need to think about what films they have starred in, the roles that they played in those films and how convincing they were. For instance, I do not believe that Brad Pitt took a particularly good role in SLEEPERS, I don't think he played the part of an attorney well. Look at the qualities and characteristics that each of the characters require in Macbeth. For example, Lady Macbeth is very domineering, however because she goes mad towards the end of the play, you need to employ an actor that can cover both of these aspects of the character convincingly. Consider how someone like Rebecca Gibney or Lisa Mccune might handle the role of Lady Macbeth. I'd probably choose Lisa, but these are just suggestions. There are plenty of other actors to choose from. Certainly they do not need to be hugely famous actors -how do the stars become stars? They start somewhere. As director, it is up to you to choose and actor that is suitable for the role(s). Personality/ability is everything -don't just go with the name. On the other hand, some well-known actors probably would make superb Macbeths or Lady Macbeths -but that is where you come in. Who would you choose based on ability to portray these characters convincingly? I hope I have been some help -goodluck.

The assignment states that you are to produce an Australian production of Macbeth, so I'd play it safe and use Australian actors -well-known or not so well-known. What you need to ask yourself is who could play the role of the characters convincingly? Lady Macbeth for instance is a very domineering, agressive character; yet the actor that took on Lady Macbeth would also need to convince her audience that she had indeed gone mad late in the play. Which Australian female actresses might manage the requirements of this role? Possibilities might include Rebecca Gibney, Lisa McCune, Nicole Kidman, Deborah Mailman. Lisa McCune is best known from her role In BLUE HEELERS, but she also played a prostitute in the mini-series adaptation of THE POTATO FACTORY which she also did very well. But is she LADY MACBETH material? A good actor can take on a variety of roles -check Nicole out in DAYS OF THUNDER or DEAD CALM and then compare her character portrayal in later films like THE OTHERS and MOULIN ROUGE. That is one way for you to determine which actor might be appropriate for a role in your production of MACBETH. GOODLUCK

Although you are asked to make an Australian production, more and more American actors are travelling all the way down under to make films. Personally i would be choosing American actors. The number of Australian actors that would be appropriate for these roles is few, stick with the Americans.

i think you should use actors that arent famous as the audience would concentrate more on the film then
