Cecelia

Hi, To play Lady Macbeth in my play, I wanted to choose someone who looks intense and has acted in previous roles that have shown their ability to act in this way. I was thinking of Cate Blanchett

You've come up with a marvellous actress to play Lady Macbeth -absolutely, I'd even begin a letter to her now (for the assessment). Cate has shown that she can handle aggressive roles in films like ELIZABETH, and she has also convincingly portrayed more vulnerable characters, such as her character in the recent film THE GIFT. Physically, she comes across as vulnerable, even weak but she has also shown that she is very capable of more dominating and aggressive roles, and LADY MACBETH would certainly be suitable. Cate also has had experience acting in plays, before she was as well-known as she is today Cate took on a role in MAMMETT's play OLEANNA. This play only has 2 characters, and so Cate was on stage for the vast majority of the play which means it would have been quite noticable if her acting was not up to scratch. Cate does have a very intense way about her -especially her eyes. I think that she would make a fabulous LADY MACBETH, especially if her eyes could be highlighted, she could be made to appear pale (perhaps you might suggest she cuts her hair short for this role). Great start, goodluck with the rest of the assignment.

What a fantastic idea. Cate was the only actress i could think of when I heard about this assessment task. However, unlike Emma I have always imagined Lady Macbeth with red hair. I think this is the case because of the Scottish images the title conjures up! Also I think this image would contrast well with the darkness I have always associated with this play. I think it would also be an incredible scene where she washes the blood from her hands over and over again, each time more frantically and as the scene intensifies the red hair comes into view for a reinforcement of this bood red guilt.

Oh Wow , cate would be awesome as Lady Macbeth , she is able to bring about the intensity and intrigue that Lady Macbeth possess. I would also love to see her in Act 5 scene 1 ( sorry , i may have gotten it worng) but the scene in which lady macbeth hallunciates. I had to that scene for a school assessment , and i have scene it done by theatre actress before , but cate would be brilliant in it.
