Ms Milano should not have allowed the two clowns to take control of the class for the first minute. She ought to show that she is the leader and the manager of the class. Also, she should not allowed any form of racism to take place in her class; a few students were making fun of a Vietnamese boy's name.

I agree with Liau, Ms Milano should of probably taken a stance as soon as she walked through the classroom door. Ms Milano however, I feel didn't address the classroom very assertively. Her body language said a lot about how she was feeling on her first day at a school. I didn't notice the racism that took place. I feel I could watch the short clip again and take more notice of Ms Milano's vebal communication.

The most important thing that is to have the students settle down and since the class was a rowdy one, I would make sure that my entrance was noticed (e.g. like dropping the files or books onto the desk to make a loud sound) and I would put on a 'stern' look.
After gaining their attention, I would introduce myself and tell them my expectations.

Ms Milano made many mistakes in this scene.I think her initial mistake was made when she walked into the classroom and allowed the class-clowns to stand in the front, she should have taken an authoritive stance perhaps things may have not deveolped the way they did.I agree with Liau, I think Ms Milano should not have tolerated any kind of racism whatsoever!
