Dreikurs

LIBBY

I like the fact that he divides a class into the four main types of trouble maker. the types are so clear, you can picture a class, even a class you were in and put people into these categories. it seems to be a helpful theory for dealing with problem kids, and gives leway for you to talk to them about school and department policies, and their responsiblities within the class. if a kid knows that you can recognise their problem, it is possible that they will be less likely to try it on with you.

I agree with Libby that dreikurs does make his types of trouble makers quite clear. I remember from my school days too this type of behaviour. I just hope I will be able to learn in my teaching days the best way to cope & recognize these behaviours! It's all about experience & learning!

I feel that Dreikers segregation of behaviours is a good starting point, but it generalises a bit. It fails to recognise the many individual differences in children and their situational circumstances. I think it is a theory that will be beneficial to us as practise teachers who haven't yet experienced the 'real thing'. It will be especially interesting to see if this theory is supported in the students we encounter on our first practicum in schools!

I think it is a good idea to divide the class into the four categories mentally if nothing else - it can help you to decide where to start with any problems. Instead of trying to control them you might be able to try and understand them, or be ready for them when they have an outburst. You might be able to include the groups in your management action plan just in case. Any help might be worth it.

Does anyone know where I can view a picture of Dreikurs over the web?
