Ideally I would like to be a firm but fair teacher where I behave and act in a consistent manner. I feel it is necessary to be flexible within the parameters of the school rules since some sanctions will work with some kids, but not with others. It is also necessary to remain polite and calm at all times (somehow!!), with a little dash of humor where appropriate. Students need to be set clear and direct boundaries, and hopefully this can be achieved through some level of collaboration with the students (but led by the teacher).

I think it is important to keep my temper at all times and to have a sense of humour when appropriate. Rules should be kbnown by all and have a set of clear finite punishments for disobaying them. After saying that I do believe that there are times when it may be necessary to not notice some actions. I think that if lessons are pitched at the right level and relevant they should help prevent many managment issues. (I hope)

We must realise that classroom management is not a general issue and that there are many aspects to effective classroom management. I agree with Alison, I think it is important to have a sense of humour but we need to be sensitive and assertive in order to build a positive classroom. I would also encourage my students to “Own their own behaviour”, that is to take responsibility for their misbehaviour. I also agree with Jessica's idea of being firm.I would do this by establishing myself confidently with a class by showing my students that I am efficient, organized, prepared and authoritive.

I agree with Sophie, getting students to own their own behaviour is very important. I also feel that in teaching an interesting involving lesson will help to circumvent issues that may need discipline. I feel it is important to give students a chance to form their own opinions and construct their own knowledge helping them to become involved and responsible for their own learning. I aalso believe positive reinforcement is the way to go. Encouragement and enthusiasm will create a better classroom environment, which will encourage positive behaviour from the students. Being consistent is also important, so the students know where they stand.

I think that your philosophy goes with the calm, measured and unflappable ( so far ) demenour that characterises Jessica - so i agree with the philos that you outline for yourself -well done -regardsmike
