Ideally I would like to be a firm but fair teacher where I behave and act in a consistent manner. I feel it is necessary to be flexible within the parameters of the school rules since some sanctions will work with some kids, but not with others. It is also necessary to remain polite and calm at all times (somehow!!), with a little dash of humor where appropriate. Students need to be set clear and direct boundaries, and hopefully this can be achieved through some level of collaboration with the students (but led by the teacher).

I think it is important to be firm with students fromt he beginning and the make sure that you set up clear boundaries that students know not to cross and make clear the school rules and consequences if they decide to cross them. Collaboration with students is definately a goal in the classroom, in order for students to be able to own their own behaviour. Teh level of collaboration will definately depend on the students and their willingness to be involved.
