i need to know how to do the working out for these questions, i know the answers only because they were on the sheet but for my test i would need to know the working out: here are the questions: 1. 3/x+1 = 2 - 1/x-1 ( i need to figure out what X equals, i know the the answer is X= 2 and 0, but how do u get there?) 2. 5/x-2 - 2/x-3 = 4/x+1 ( i need to figure out what X equals, i know the answer is X= 5 and 7, but how do u get there?) well this is a very easy problem,the answergoes this way:
taking L.C.M. on right hand side u get,
3/x+1=2x-2-1/x-1
i.e. 3/x+1=2x-3/x-1
cross multiplying we get,
3x-3=(2x-3)(x+1)
3x-3=2x^2-x-3
i.e. 2x^2-4x=0 this is a quadratic eqn of type ax^2+bx+c=0,the only thing is that c=0 in our case,
2x(x-2)=0
thus 2x=0 or x-2=0
i.e. x=0 or x=2
the second problem can be solved in a similar way
