The MTeach and BTeach courses are founded on a philosophy which values innovation, reflection, collaborative learning, professionalism, research-based teaching practices and lifelong learning and professional development.
The course aims to prepare graduates who are:
The course offers many opportunities for students to work closely with enthusiastic and highly qualified staff, and to work extensively in our partnership schools with their teachers and children. It also aims to assist students in their use of contemporary instructional technology in their teaching and learning. A feature of the program is its use of case studies taken from the real world of teaching and learning, including those written by practising teachers and developed by students in their own practical experiences.
In each phase of the program students will be encouraged to adopt a socially critical approach to the profession of teaching, in the context of ongoing social change, and in the examination of issues ranging from those of equity and access to education and the nature of children's learning, to the nature and effects of teaching pedagogies, of information and communication technologies, and of curriculum change on the nature and practice of teaching. Students will be introduced to a variety of modes of teaching and learning, and will be encouraged to develop their own teaching style and rationale for teaching practice founded on a knowledge and understanding of the interplay between research and practice. and the contemporary features of schools and the communities they are a part of.
The staff in the Master of Teaching course are looking forward to working with MTeach candidates in order to support their investment into becoming well prepared, skilled and reflective educators who aspire to the highest ideals of the teaching profession and the community it serves.
