Programs and Units of Study

Candidates for the Master of Teaching and Bachelor of Teaching degrees enrol in either the Primary program (to qualify as a K-6 teacher) or the Secondary program (to qualify as a teacher in years 7-12 in one or more subject specialities). Both programs share a common core of units of study and offer a choice of other course units, depending on the subject specialities and choices made in the Options program.

The Bachelor of Teaching degree course consists of the following components:

Study 1

Study 1 addresses the nature and practice of contemporary schooling, teaching and learning, and the contexts within which they occur. In first year, Study 1 consists of three sequential units of study, the first year units "Introduction to teaching and learning" and "Teachers and Learners in Schools and Communities", and the second year unit "Schools ain their Communities ". Other Compulsory (Across curriculum) units

Information Technology

The IT program addresses issues in information technology required of all beginning teachers by the NSW Department of Education and Training. It consists of 12 weeks of study across phases one and two.

Health and Sport

All first year students enrol in the a unit of study , EDBT5216 Personal Development, Health and Physcial Education 1, which has two components "Issues in School Health" and "Sports Coaching". Click a title to go to the:

Special Education

All second year students enrol in a "Special Education" unit of study.

Study 2 (Curriculum Areas)

In each year of the course, all students will enrol in either two "single method" teaching subjects (curriculum areas) or in one of the "double method" areas (Art, Mathematics, Music, Science, Social Education, and Technological and Applied Studies). In-School experiences : the Practicum and Internship program

The professional experiences component of the course consists of a program of observation visits to educational environments in Phase 1 and the first block practice-teaching period (First Practicum) in first year, and a second block practice teaching period (Practicum 2) followed by the Internship in second year. Candidates for the BTeach exit the program before the Internship. Click the title to go to the:

Secondary Options program

Secondary Pass-degree students will do three "Options" components over the two years of the program in the enrolled units of study: 2 as part of Options 1 in second semester in 1st Year and a Profession or Community-based Service Learning experience) for Options 2 in 2nd Year. Honours students undertake a different set of optional and compulsory course units instead of the pass-level options classes.

The Post-Internship Conference
