Candidates for admission to the MTeach who wish to teach in a public school in NSW should contact the NSW Department of Education and Training to ensure that their undergraduate subjects satisfy the department's requirements for teaching specialists. Special conditions apply for admission into the MTeach in the following curriculum method (subject) areas, including the double method specialisations (e.g. for those who wish to teach in only one subject area which is offered as a double method course).

MathematicsMathematics candidates should generally have completed at least 3 years (6 semesters) of Mathematics for Double Maths or 2 years (4 semesters) for Single methof Maths. Single method applicants who are also doing Single method Science or Computer Studies may be permitted to do Siongle Maths if they have an appropriate Science/Computing Science major and at least 2 semesters (1 year) of Mathematics in their undergraduate studies. Studies in applied mathematics (e.g. engineering, computer science, the sciences) are not, of themselves, sufficient qualification - some study in Pure Mathematics done in a university department of Mathematics is usually required. |

ScienceScience includes the school subjects of:
Double method Science candidates should have a full major (3 years/6 semesters) in at least one natural Science discipline area (Biology, Chemistry, Geoscience or Physics, or an equivalent natural science such as Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Marine Science, Environmental Science or Agricultural Science) and have studied at least two other science areas, for at least 2 semesters (1 year) in each case. Mathematics is not considered a science in the context of school teaching - it is a separate curriculum area. In certain cases relevant subjects like Geography and the History & Philosophy of Science may be considered in lieu of a third science area. Single method Science candidates must have a full major in one of the four science disciplines (or its equivalent) and have studied a second science for at least 2 semesters (1 year), in addition to satisfying the requirements for a second teaching method other than Science (e.g. Mathematics, Geography, a Language, TAS). |
