THE DESERT

People often think of the desert as a vast, empty land without life. This is because deserts around the world are extremely hot with a limited supply of water. Yet in this inhospitable place there live an amazing number of plants and animals. These animals and plants are able to survive because they have adapted to the conditions in which they live. Both plants and animals learn survival techniques such as storing water or avoiding being in the sun in the hottest part of the day or year.
