1. Case analysis of HSIE Cases in Relation to Virtual School 50% ( Due 12th May )

Considering and Responding to a case Analysing cases may involve identifying, defining and critically appraising issues, assumptions, perspectives and stereotypes in the case, and locating the case in the HSIE context. Analysing cases involves thinking about relevant theory, research, policy documents and HSIE professional knowledge.

Responding to cases involves the identification of a sequence of specific, practical actions considered appropriate to deal with the HSIE case issues. It involves justifying your plan of action and analysis of likely consequences and reflecting on the HSIE issues the case highlights. Assessment Criteria On the basis of your work on one of the HSIE cases, you are required to present a case analysis which demonstrates your knowledge of the o issues explored in case o application of case to school context, including school procedures and student characteristics o application of case to HSIE teaching and learning strategies. 2. Development of 4 lesson plans for a HSIE Core topic. 50 % ( Due 2nd June )

Lesson Plan Assessment Criteria:

 

- Timing, lesson structure

- Specificity of outcomes

- Resources used, variation of objectives

- Provision for varied student abilities

- Literacy aspects of lesson

- Relevance of content

 

3. Development of a Teaching and Learning Resource Folder (Date Due 17th June in HSIE Seminar)

Students in groups of three will develop a Teaching and Learning Resource Folder to support the teaching of the subject they have chosen. The resource folder should include:

 

  • A high quality program for a topic in the appropriate syllabus including the relevant teaching and learning strategies and resource. The program should be presented in grid format ( 2 pages ) and contain a topic/unit overview. The program should include three sample lesson plans modelling different types of strategies that may be used in the teaching and learning of this topic. One of the lessons should be aimed at development of higher order thinking skills.
  • A short evaluation of the current textbooks supporting the syllabus
  • An annotated bibliography including websites and other current resources that may be used in the teaching and learning of your topic annotated list of websites by topic
  • An internal in school assessment instrument assessing student outcome achievement as specified by the syllabus. The assessment criteria for measuring outcome achievement must be included in tabulated form.

HSIE Core 3 Assessment task marking criteria

1. Unit Overview must include
-appropriate outcomes and objectives
-appropriate content -high quality and appropriate teaching and learning strategies
-valid and reliable assessment instruments conforming to syllabus requirements

2. Sample lesson plans must
-clearly articulate outcomes and teaching and learning strategies
-demonstrate variety of teaching and learning strategies -demonstrate evidence of higher order thinking skill development

3. Annotated Bibliography must
-target current materials
-indicate resource efficacy for student diversity and teaching and learning strategy choice
