This program aims to prepare undergraduates in the theory
and practice of teaching History, Geography and Economics/Commerce
Business Studies within the Key Learning Area; Human Society
and Its Environment.
The program draws on:
- research findings concerning the types of knowledge that
the HSIE teacher requires to assist students in developing
competencies and skills in teaching subjects in HSIE. These
findings provide the theoretical framework for the program.
- The 'real world' of teaching and learning, schools and
teachers work with the opportunity to enter the domain of
the practicing teacher. Such information provides students
with a sense of varying school cultures, insights into beliefs
about, and orientations to, teaching, lesson planning, programming
and teaching strategies development and the process of professional
socialization involved in teaching Geography, History, Commerce,
Business Studies and Economics.
